Predeparture Goals and Expectations for All of You!

So with only a few days before i wave goodbye to the sweet smelling U.S. and embark on a multi-month adventure in Peru I thought now would be a good time to give all of you some aspects to look forward to since you will not be able to hike Machu Pichu with me, bask in the sickly high altitude or enjoy a hot cup of coca tea at my side. In no particular order...

1) I'll return with a nice fresh tan, blending in perfectly with all of your bronzed bodies. This way it won't seem like we've been apart at all.
2) Hopefully, cross your fingers, I'll be much more fluent in Spanish when I return so when we go out to Chipotle (Wooster crowd) or Rocque's (802ers) I'll be able to help everyone order "burritos" and "salsa" and "quesadilla."
3) Gifts!!! -enough said
4) This is mostly aimed at Coach Rice, who will never read this, but maybe I will return in really good running shape after being whooped into shape by locals and the overwhelming number of athletic girls on my program.
5) My greater understanding of cultural differences will help me relate to everyone better, so for all of you from Wisconsin or Southern Ohio or even New Jersey, you can look to me for support now since I will have successfully broken my VT and Wooster bubbles.
6) After months of being publicly embarrassed and humiliated while attempting to learn and speak as much as possible in a foreign country I will more than likely welcome any jokes at my expense.
7) Stories, ohhhhh the stories
8) Finally, and possibly most importantly, I will once again be genuinely and overwhelmingly happy to see all of you again, and with big hugs and maybe a smile I'll enjoy listening to everything that happened in this here home country while I was away!

So with those 8 points I give you some things to expect when you next see me and hopefully some things to look forward to. I am very excited to leave and experience all this "newness" but I will be equally excited to see all of you again. Have fun, do something crazy (or not) and keep track of things to tell me when I return.

  1. Don't forget to visit the highest ski center in the world above lLa Paz along a narrow rocky road along the side of a mountain. It was only a cosmic ray station when I visited it. I stupidly didn't stop of at the site you did so missed the archeology wonders.

    Enjoy your stay
